Opening Ports for Synology RS409RP+ on the Dlink DSL-500T Firewall

DSL-500T

Open a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox. Enter the internal IP address of your router in the address bar of your browser. If you do not know your routers internal IP address please read our How To Find Your Routers IP Address guide.

In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the internal IP address of your router. By default the IP address should be set to 10.1.1.1.

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default both the username and password are admin. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

Click the Advanced button near the top of the page.

We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to setup your router's firewall for Synology RS409RP+. Go ahead and enter the settings shown below into the Filters menu and then click Apply.

Put a dot into the Inbound Filter radio button.

Select Any IP from the Source IP drop down box.

Select Single IP from the Destination IP drop down box.

Enter the ip address to allow traffic to into the left Destination IP box. If you are allowing traffic so you can run a program on your computer, you should enter your computer's ip address into that box.

Select Any Port from the Source Port drop down box.

If you are opening a single port, select Single Port from the Destination Port drop down box, then enter the port number into the left Destination Port box. If you are opening a range of ports, select Port Range from the Destination Port drop down box, then enter the lowest number of the range into the left Destination Port box and the highest number of the range into the right Destination Port box.

Use the Protocol drop down box to select the protocol type of the ports you are opening.

Select Allow from the Action drop down box.

When you are finished, click the Apply button.

And that is it! You are done!
