Opening Ports for QSee QT428 on the Microsoft WindowsXPFirewallFirewall Firewall

What is a Firewall?

  • Go to the Network Menu.
  • Put a check into the Obtain an IP Address Automatically box.
  • Click the Test button.
  • Look near the lower left corner. If it says Ok, then click on Apply, then Exit.


  • Go to Menu - Information and Network
  • Write down the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway.


  • Go back to the Network Menu.
  • Uncheck the Obtain an IP Address Automatically box.
  • Now enter the IP Address, Gateway and Subnet Mask you wrote down earlier.
  • When you're done click Apply, then Exit.

Go ahead and open up Microsoft Windows XP Firewall.

There are a variety of ways that you can get into the Windows XP Firewall. The method that we are going to list should work for most people.

Start by clicking on the Start button on the bottom left of your screen and then click on Run. You should see the Run dialog box.WindowsXPFirewallFirewall Type the word control into the Run dialog box and click the Ok button. This will take you to the Control Panel.WindowsXPFirewallFirewall

Click the Security Center link near the bottom left of the page.

Your control panel may look different. If it does, then find the link called Windows Firewall. This will take you straight to the firewall settings page.WindowsXPFirewallFirewall

Remove the checkmark from the Don't allow exceptions checkbox.

Click the Exceptions tab.

We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to setup Windows XP Firewall's firewall for QSee QT428. Go ahead and enter the settings shown below into the Add Port menu.

What are the risks of opening a port?
 
Click the Ok button when you have entered all of this data.

You should see another page of settings below that need to be added to Windows XP Firewall. Open up a new Add Port page and enter those settings.

What are the risks of opening a port?
 
Click the Ok button when you have entered all of this data. Click the Add Port button to open up the Add a Port window.



In the Name box, put the name of the program whose ports you are opening. It really doesn't matter what you put here, it shouldjust be something to remind you of why you forwarded this port. In the Port box put the port that you want to forward. Put a circlein either TCP or UDP depending on the application that you are forwarding. Some applications will require you to do thistwice, once for TCP and once for UDP to make sure that you are forwarding both. This is one of the downfalls of the Windows XP Firewall.When you have entered all of this, click the Ok button. Repeat as many times as necessary until you have forwarded all of the portsthat your application requires. When you are finished, click the Ok button to close the Windows Firewall. You're done!
