Before we can forward ports for WinMX, we need to figure out what ports WinMX is using. Here is a brief walkthrough on how to do that. Go ahead and open up WinMX.

Click the Settings button in the menu at the top of your screen.

Under Internet Connection click the Incomming TCP Connections link. You should see a Listen on Port box. The port in that box is the one that needs to be forwarded to your computer. Please enter a port into that box. It doesn't matter what port number you choose, but a port number between 10000 and 60000 would be a good idea. Higher numbered ports are generally not blocked by ISPs. Please enter the port you chose for the Listen on Port box into the box below.

Once again in the Internet Connection section we are going to click a link. This time click the In/Out UDP Packets link. You should see an Send and receive UDP datagrams on port box. This is the port that you need to forward for your UDP connections. Once again pick a random port between 10000 and 60000, and enter it into that box. Please enter the port you chose for the Send and receive UDP datagrams on port box into the box below.
Open a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox. Enter the internal IP address of your router in the address bar of your browser.
If you do not know your routers internal IP address please read our How To Find Your Routers IP Address guide.
In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the internal IP address of your router.
By default the IP address should be set to 192.168.1.1.
You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now.
By default both the username and password are blank. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.
Please visit our Default Router Passwords page if the username and password shown above do not work for you.
Click the Virtual Servers link near the left of the page.
We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to forward the ports you need to forward. WinMX requires you to forward the ports you entered above. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the Virtual Servers menu and then click Add as new Server.
| Enable | ||
| PC(Server): | My PC is not Listed |
| Protocol: | |
| Internal (LAN) Ports: | ~ |
| External (WAN) Ports: | ~ |
You should see another page of settings that need to be entered into one of the blank lines on your routers Virtual Servers page. Go ahead and enter those settings and then click Add as new Server.
| Enable | ||
| PC(Server): | My PC is not Listed |
| Protocol: | |
| Internal (LAN) Ports: | ~ |
| External (WAN) Ports: | ~ |
And that is it! You are done!
To test if your port has been properly forwarded, you can use our Port Checker tool.
