Forwarding Ports on the Cisco Linksys-E1000 Router

Before Forwarding a Port Setup a Static IP Address

To setup port forwarding on the Cisco Linksys-E1000 router your computer needs to have a static IP address. You should complete one of the following steps first:


Now that you have setup a Static IP Address on your computer, please enter the IP address that you assigned to your computer here:

192.168.1. <-- Don't Skip This Step!

Login to the Cisco Linksys-E1000 Router

Now we need to know your routers IP address. You can find it a variety of ways.

How To Find Your Cisco Linksys-E1000 Router IP Address

It's ok if you don't know your Cisco Linksys-E1000 router's internal IP address. You can find it by doing one of the following:

Login To The Cisco Linksys-E1000 Router Using Your Web Browser

Open a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox. Enter the internal IP address of your router in the address bar of your browser.

In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the internal IP address of your Cisco Linksys-E1000 router. By default the IP address should be set to 192.168.1.1.

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now.

The Default Cisco Linksys-E1000 Router Username is: admin

The Default Cisco Linksys-E1000 Router Password is: admin


Click the Ok button to log in to your Cisco Linksys-E1000 router.

How to Port Forward any port on the Cisco Linksys-E1000

Now that you are logged in to your Cisco Linksys-E1000 router you should see the following:

Click the Applications & Gaming link near the top of the page.

This router has two different sections that allow you to forward ports. One section allows you to forward a range of ports, and the other allows you to forward a single port. To forward a range of ports, click Port Range Forwarding. To forward a single port, click Single Port Forwarding.

Forwarding a Single Port

Enter the name of the program into the Application Name box. It doesn't really matter what you put into this box, but something that will remind you why these ports are being forwarded would be a good idea.

Enter the port to forward into the External Port and the Internal Port boxes.

Use the Protocol drop down box to select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding.

Enter the ip address to forward these ports to into the To IP Address box. If you are forwarding ports so you can run a program on your computer, you should enter your computer's ip address into that box.

Put a checkmark in the Enabled checkbox.

Forwarding a Port Range

Enter the name of the program into the Application Name box. It doesn't really matter what you put into this box, but something that will remind you why these ports are being forwarded would be a good idea.

If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number into the Start Port and the End Port boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the Start Port box. Then enter the highest number of that range into the End Port box.

Use the Protocol drop down box to select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding.

Enter the ip address to forward these ports to into the To IP Address box. If you are forwarding ports so you can run a program on your computer, you should enter your computer's ip address into that box.

Put a checkmark in the Enabled checkbox.

When you're finished, click Save Settings near the bottom of the screen to save your changes.

And that's it! You're done!


Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports for any port on the Cisco Linksys-E1000 you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
