Port Forwarding the Cisco Linksys-E4200 Router for Ares

Before Forwarding a Port Setup a Static IP Address

To setup port forwarding on the Cisco Linksys-E4200 router your device needs to have a static IP address. You should complete one of the following steps first:

Now that you have setup a Static IP Address on your device, please enter the IP address that you assigned to your device here:

Login to the Cisco Linksys-E4200 Router

Now we need to know your routers IP address. You can find it a variety of ways.

How To Find Your Cisco Linksys-E4200 Router IP Address

It's ok if you don't know your Cisco Linksys-E4200 router's internal IP address. You can find it by doing one of the following:

Login To The Cisco Linksys-E4200 Router Using Your Web Browser

Open a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox. Enter the internal IP address of your router in the address bar of your browser.

In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the internal IP address of your Cisco Linksys-E4200 router. By default the IP address should be set to

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now.

Click the Ok button to log in to your Cisco Linksys-E4200 router.

How to Port Forward Ares on the Cisco Linksys-E4200

Having trouble forwarding ports on the Cisco Linksys-E4200?

If you are having trouble with this guide, then perhaps PFConfig may be your solution. PFConfig is a software tool that will automatically forward ports for your router to save you time and hassle.

Before we can forward ports for Ares, we need to figure out what ports ares is using. Here is a brief walkthrough on how to do that.

Open up Ares. Then click the Control Panel icon in the toolbar at the top of your screen.

You should see a bunch of tabs close to the top of this window. One of these tabs should be labeled Transfer. Go ahead and click it now.

Enter the port you want Ares to use into the Accept incoming connections on port box. By default this port is set to 1157. You can change it to whatever you like, or leave it set to 1157.

Please enter the port you chose for Ares below.

Now that you are logged in to your Cisco Linksys-E4200 router you should see the following:

Click the Applications & Gaming link near the top of the page.

This router has two different sections that allow you to forward ports. One section allows you to forward a range of ports, and the other allows you to forward a single port. To forward a range of ports, click Port Range Forwarding. To forward a single port, click Single Port Forwarding.

Forward User Defined Port on the Cisco Linksys-E4200

We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to forward the ports you need to forward. Ares requires you to forward the ports you entered above. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the Single Port Forwarding or Port Range Forwarding menu.

When you're finished, click Save Settings near the bottom of the screen to save your changes.

And that's it! You're done!

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports for Ares on the Cisco Linksys-E4200 you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
