Port Forwarding the DSLink 260E Router for Apple Remote Desktop

Before Forwarding a Port Setup a Static IP Address

To setup port forwarding on the DSLink 260E router your computer needs to have a static IP address. You should complete one of the following steps first:


Now that you have setup a Static IP Address on your computer, please enter the IP address that you assigned to your computer here:

192.168.1. <-- Don't Skip This Step!

Login to the DSLink 260E Router

Now we need to know your routers IP address. You can find it a variety of ways.

How To Find Your DSLink 260E Router IP Address

It's ok if you don't know your DSLink 260E router's internal IP address. You can find it by doing one of the following:

Login To The DSLink 260E Router Using Your Web Browser

Open a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox. Enter the internal IP address of your router in the address bar of your browser.

In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the internal IP address of your DSLink 260E router. By default the IP address should be set to 192.168.1.1.

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now.

The Default DSLink 260E Router Username is: root

The Default DSLink 260E Router Password is: root


Click the Ok button to log in to your DSLink 260E router.

Click the Services button near the top of the page.

Select NAT Rule Entry from the NAT Options drop down box.

Forward Ports 3283 on the DSLink 260E

We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to forward the ports you need to forward. Apple Remote Desktop requires you to forward the 3283,5900,5988 ports. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the NAT Rule - Add menu and then click Submit.

You should see another page of settings that need to be entered into one of the blank lines on your routers NAT Rule - Add page. Go ahead and enter those settings and then click Submit.

Forward Ports 5988 on the DSLink 260E

You should see another page of settings that need to be entered into one of the blank lines on your routers NAT Rule - Add page. Go ahead and enter those settings and then click Submit.

Click the Close button near the bottom of the page.

Click the IP Filter link near the top of the page.

Select Low from the Security Level drop down box.

Select Accept from the Public Default Action, Private Default Action and DMZ Default Action drop down box.

Click the Submit button near the bottom of the page.

Click the Admin button near the top of the page.

You should now see a new menu. In this new menu, click Commit & Reboot.

Click the Commit button near the bottom of the page.

Click the Reboot button near the bottom of the page.

And that is it! You are done!


Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports for Apple Remote Desktop on the DSLink 260E you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
