Port Forwarding Ares on the Dlink DSL-G604T

What is Port Forwarding?

Before we can forward ports for Ares, we need to figure out what ports ares is using. Here is a brief walkthrough on how to do that.

Open up Ares. Then click the Control Panel icon in the toolbar at the top of your screen.

You should see a bunch of tabs close to the top of this window. One of these tabs should be labeled Transfer. Go ahead and click it now.

Enter the port you want Ares to use into the Accept incoming connections on port box. By default this port is set to 1157. You can change it to whatever you like, or leave it set to 1157.

Please enter the port you chose for Ares below.

Open a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox. Enter the internal IP address of your router in the address bar of your browser. If you do not know your routers internal IP address please read our How To Find Your Routers IP Address guide.

In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the internal IP address of your router. By default the IP address should be set to 192.168.1.1.

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default both the username and password are admin. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

Click the Advanced link near the top of the page.

The menu on the left should change. In this new menu, click Port Forwarding.

Put a dot into the User radio button.

Click the Add button near the bottom of the page.

We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to forward the ports you need to forward. Ares requires you to forward the ports you entered above. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the Rule Managment menu and then click Apply.

Select the applications you just created in the Available Rules list, then click the Add > button to move them to the Applied Rules box.

When you are finished, click the Apply button.

Click the Tools link near the top of the page.

When you're finished, click Save All near the center of the screen to save your changes.

And that's it! You're done!
