Port Forwarding the Netgear DGN1000SP Router for HAI Home Automation

Before Forwarding a Port Setup a Static IP Address

To setup port forwarding on the Netgear DGN1000SP router your device needs to have a static IP address. You should complete one of the following steps first:

Login to the Netgear DGN1000SP Router

Now we need to know your routers IP address. You can find it a variety of ways.

How To Find Your Netgear DGN1000SP Router IP Address

It's ok if you don't know your Netgear DGN1000SP router's internal IP address. You can find it by doing one of the following:

Login To The Netgear DGN1000SP Router Using Your Web Browser

Open a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox. Enter the internal IP address of your router in the address bar of your browser.

In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the internal IP address of your Netgear DGN1000SP router. By default the IP address should be set to

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now.

The Default Netgear DGN1000SP Router Username is: admin

The Default Netgear DGN1000SP Router Password is: password

Click the Ok button to log in to your Netgear DGN1000SP router.

How to Port Forward HAI Home Automation on the Netgear DGN1000SP

Now that you are logged in to your Netgear DGN1000SP router you should see the following:

Forward Ports 4369 on the Netgear DGN1000SP

We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to forward the ports you need to forward. HAI Home Automation requires you to forward the following ports: 4369. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the Virtual Servers menu.

Click the Services link near the left side of the screen.


Click the Add Custom Service button near the center of the screen.


Enter the following information in to your router.

Start Port:
Finish Port:

When you've finished entering the above information, click the Apply button.
Now click the Firewall Rules link near the left side of the screen.


Click the Outbound Services or Inbound Services Add button. If you are unsure whether the program you are using will use these ports for inbound or outbound traffic, repeat these steps for both Inbound and Outbound.


Enter the following information in to your router.

Send to LAN Server ...
WAN Users
  start: ...
  finish: ...

When you've finished entering the above information, click the Apply button to save things.

And that is it! You are done!

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports for HAI Home Automation on the Netgear DGN1000SP you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
