Port Forwarding Ares on the Westell 6100

Before we can forward ports for Ares, we need to figure out what ports ares is using. Here is a brief walkthrough on how to do that.



Open up Ares. Then click the Control Panel icon in the toolbar at the top of your screen.



You should see a bunch of tabs close to the top of this window. One of these tabs should be labeled Transfer. Go ahead and click it now.



Enter the port you want Ares to use into the Accept incoming connections on port box. By default this port is set to 1157. You can change it to whatever you like, or leave it set to 1157.

Please enter the port you chose for Ares below.

Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape. Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.1.1.




You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default the username is admin, and the password is password. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

Click the Configuration button near the top of the page.




Click the define custom service button near the bottom of the page.




Put a dot into the Port Forwarding Ranges of Ports radio button.

Click the Next button near the bottom of the page.




We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to forward the ports you need to forward. Ares requires you to forward the ports you entered above. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the Port Range menu and then click Next then Close.

Select the application you created using the Service Name drop down box. Then click Enable to enable it.

And that is it! You are done!
