Port Triggering for the 3com 3c855

What is Port Forwarding?
What is Port Triggering?

Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape.

Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.2.1.

You should prompted for your password. Enter your password now. By default the password is admin. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

In the menu on the left hand side of your screen, click the Special Access link.

You really have two options in this window. The first is to use the Popular Applications drop down box at the bottom of your screen. Go ahead and click the down arrow in this box. You should see a list of applications. If you see the one you want to forward click it. Then select an ID to copy the configuration to using the drop down box to the right of the copy to button. Then click the Copy To button. You should see a new profile in the table above. Go ahead and click the Enable checkbox to enable that configuration.

If you are unsure of the port range/ranges check the Ports list page or the software manufacture's homepage. If you did not see the service you wanted in that list don't worry. Just enter the trigger port number in the Trigger box. Enter the incoming ports in the Incoming Ports box. These ports can be entered in a list 45,55,59, a range 500-600 or a combination of both 45,55,500-600.

Click Save at the bottom of your screen to save the configuration you just created.

It's important to notice that we did not specify an ip address in this configuration. This means that any computer on your network can use it. Since ports can only be pointed at one computer at a time, only one computer at a time may use this configuration. Nothing bad will happen if two computers try to use the configuration. The configuration just won't work when this happens.
