Port Triggering for the Airlink 101 AR315W

What is Port Forwarding?
What is Port Triggering?

Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape.

Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.123.254.

You should prompted for your password. Enter your password now. By default the password is admin. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

Click the plus sign in front of Forwarding Rules. Clicking that plus sign will cause another menu to drop down. In this new menu click the Special AP link.

There are really only two boxes on this page. There is the box for the trigger port, and the box for the incoming ports. You can think of the triger port as a light switch for the incoming ports. When there is data flowing on the trigger port, the incoming ports are on or forwarded. When there is no data on the trigger port, the incoming ports are off or not forwarded. Both the trigger ports, and the incoming ports should be specified by the manufacturer of the software you are forwarding ports for. Enter the trigger port into the Trigger box. Go ahead and put the incoming ports into the Incoming Ports box. The incoming ports can be entered as a list like 50,60,70, a range like 500-600, or a combination of both like 50,60,70,500-600. Make sure there is a checkmark in the Enable checkbox.

Click Save at the bottom of your screen to save the configuration you just created.

It's important to notice that we did not specify an ip address in this configuration. This means that any computer on your network can use it. Since ports can only be pointed at one computer at a time, only one computer at a time may use this configuration. Nothing bad will happen if two computers try to use the configuration. The configuration just won't work when this happens.
