Port Triggering for the Digicom Michelangelo Home 54

What is Port Forwarding?
What is Port Triggering?

Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape.

Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.0.1.

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default the username is admin, and the password is password. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

On the left hand side of your screen click the Advanced link. Clicking advanced will drop down a submenu. In this new submenu click the Internet link.

On this page you will see a Special Applications button. Go ahead and click it now.

Most of the settings on this page should be the manufacture of the software you are setting up port triggering for. Enter the name of the program you are setting up triggering for into the Name box. It doesn't really matter what goes into this, but something that will remind you why this configuration is here would be a good idea. You can think of the outgoing(trigger) ports as a light switch for the incoming(forwarded) ports. When there is data flowing on the outgoing ports, the incoming ports are on or forwarded. When there is no data on the outgoing ports, then incoming ports are off or not forwarded. If you want to specify one trigger port, enter that trigger port into the Outgoing Ports Start and Outgoing Ports Finish boxes. If you want to specify a range of trigger ports, enter the lowest port number of that range into the Outgoing Ports Start box. The highest port number of the range should go into the Outgoing Ports Finish box. Use the Outgoing Ports Type box to select the protocol type of the outgoing ports. If you want to forward a single port, enter that port into the Incoming Ports Start and Incoming Ports Finish boxes. If you want to forward a range of ports, enter the lowest port number of the range into the Incoming Ports Start box. Then enter the highest port number of the range into the Incoming Ports Finish box. Use the Incoming Ports Type box to select the protocol type of the forwarded ports. Make sure there is a checkmark in the Enabled checkbox.

When you are finished making changes click the Save button to save your settings.

Well thats it! You're done!
