Port Triggering for the Dlink DGL-4100

What is Port Forwarding?
What is Port Triggering?

Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape.

Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.0.1.

You should prompted for your password. Enter your password now. By default the password is blank. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

Click the Advanced button at the top of your screen.

Click the Special Applications button in the meun on the left hand side of your screen.

At the top of this page you will see several applications with checkboxes next to them. If the application you want to setup port triggering for is there, just put a checkmark into it's checkbox to enable it.

If your application was not there, then let's check the Select Special Applcation drop down box for it. If you see your application in that drop down box, click it to select it. Make sure there is a checkmark in the Enable checkbox at the top of the page. Make sure the Schedule drop down box is set to Always. Then click the Save button to save these changes.

If you have not seen the program you want to setup in at the top of the page or in the select special application drop down box, don't worry. We will setup a custom application here. Enter a name for this application into the Name box. It doesn't really matter what you enter into the name box, but something that will remind you why this configuration is here is a good idea. Enter the ports to use as the trigger ports into the Trigger Port Range box. These ports can be entered as a list like 56,60,82, a range like 500-600, or a combination of both like 56,60,82,500-600. You can think of the trigger ports as a light switch for the incoming ports. When there is data flowing on the trigger ports, the incoming ports are on or forwarded. When there is no data on the trigger ports, the incoming ports are off or not forwarded. Use the Trigger Protocol drop down box to select the protocol type of the trigger ports. All of these settings should be specified by the software manufacturer. Enter the ports to forward into the Incoming Port Range. The incoming ports can be entered in the same manner that the trigger ports were entered. Use the Input Protocol drop down box to specify the protocol type to be used by the forwarded ports. Make sure there is a checkmark in the Enable checkbox at the top of the page. Make sure the Schedule drop down box is set to Always. Then click the Save button to save these changes.

That's it! You're done!
