Configuring the Port Trigger Application

This guide allows you to use our Port Trigger application along with the port triggering section of your router to forward ports.

Open up the Port Trigger application, and click New button to configure a new rule.

Put a name of the program you are forwarding ports for in to the Application Name box. It doesn't really matter what you put into this box, but something that will remind you why this configuration is here would be a good idea. Click the Autoset button to get an external ip address. Alternatively you can enter any ip address that is outside of your network, in to the Target Address box. Enter the trigger port to use into the Trigger Port box. Once again it doesn't really matter what port you use here. You can pick any random port to put into the Trigger Port box, or just leave at it's default setting. Select the protocol to use by clicking the UDP/TCP radio buttons. Once again it doesn't really matter what protocol you select, but you do need to remember which one you chose. Later on in this guide, we will be entering the selections you chose here into your router. The Delay box tells the Port Trigger application how often to send the packets. If you have problems, like the ports not being forwarded all the time, you should decrease the number in the delay box.

I need you to fill in the boxes below, with the values you entered into the Port Trigger application. Entering the requested values will allow this guide to show you exactly how to configure your router.

Configuring your Router to work with Port Trigger.

Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape.

Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.0.1.

You should prompted for your password. Enter your password now. By default the password is admin. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

The next screen that appears is the Main Menu. Click Advanced at the bottom of the screen.

The next screen that appears is the Advanced Menu. Click Special AP at the bottom of the screen.

Let's take a quick look in the Popular Applications drop down box for the program you are trying to setup triggering for. Is the program you are looking for there? If it is click it to highlight it. Then use the ID box to select the id of a blank line in the table above. Click the Copy To button to copy the configuration to the line that you previously selected. Put a check into the Enable box, and then click the Apply button to save the configuration.

If you did not see the application you are trying to setup port triggering for, don't worry. We will create a new port triggering configuration. Enter the trigger port into the Trigger box. You can think of the trigger port as sort of a light switch for the incoming ports. When data is flowing on the trigger port, the incoming ports are on or forwarded. If there is no data on the trigger port the incoming ports are off or not forwarded. For port information check the Ports list page or the software manufacture's homepage. Enter the incoming ports into the Incoming Ports box. These ports can be entered in a range like 65,67,70, a list like 500-600, or a combination of both like 65,67,500-600. Put a check mark in the Enable checkbox. Click Apply when you are finished setting up port triggering configurations.

Then click the Apply button at the bottom of the page to save your settings.
