You might need to forward some ports in your router when you use KTorrent. By forwarding ports you allow connection requests coming from the internet to be directed to KTorrent.
Routers generally do not allow incoming connection requests from the internet. Forwarding ports can work around this limitation.
Remember to Do These Things Before You Forward a Port
Before forwarding a port make sure that you know these things:
- Your router's internal IP address.
- The IP address of your download client.
- Each of the TCP and UDP ports that you need to forward.

How To Forward Ports for KTorrent
The easiest way to forward your ports is to use our Network Utilities software. Since Network Utilities allows you to both forward and un-forward ports easily you can keep your network security maximized, and then forward ports only when you need them.
Alternatively you can do it by hand. The step-by-step process for forwarding a port is:
- Begin by logging in to your router.
- Find the port forwarding section in your router.
- Put your download client's IP address in the proper box in your router.
- Enter the TCP and UDP ports that you need to forward for KTorrent in the corresponding boxes in your router.
Some routers need to be rebooted in order for the changes to be saved.
