Opening a port to a specific device may solve problems that you are having on your network. Make sure that it is necessary though, before opening a port, because you are effectively creating a pinhole in the firewall portion of your router that could lead to malicious traffic on your network. The risk is exceedingly low, though, so don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it.
Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:
- TCP Ports: 3074
- UDP Ports: 3074
If you are looking for the ports for a different application you can find it by either:
Select Custom Settings from the Application Name drop-down box.
Go ahead and enter the port number into the left WAN Port and the right WAN Port boxes, to forward a single port. To forward a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the left WAN Port box and then enter the highest number of that range into the right WAN Port box.
Enter the exact same values that you put in the WAN Port boxes, into the LAN Port boxes.
Make the Custom Settings selection in the Internal Client drop-down list. Then, go ahead and enter the IP address that you are forwarding ports to into the Internal Client box. It is possible for this to be either the IP address of your computer or of any other device on your network that you want ports forwarded to.
In the Protocol dropdown box, select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding. Choose Both if your router has that option. Otherwise, choose either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP and your router does not have the Both option, then you need to create two entries.
Put a check in the box labeled Enable Mapping.
Select your internet connection from the WAN Connection List drop down list. If you have more than one option and aren't sure which to select, the WAN Status page may give you an idea.
Click the Add button at the bottom of the page to apply these changes when you are completely finished.
