Your H268A router helps to protect your network by blocking incoming internet connections. This is an important feature that helps you to control which applications have access to your network. Sometimes you want to allow network access to a specific application in order to play a game, connect a device, or use an app. The ZTE H268A can unblock certain incoming connections through port forwarding or by opening a port. You can open ports in your H268A by assigning specific ports to an IP address. Forwarding these ports directs incoming data to a specific device or application.

To open ports in your ZTE H268A router, follow the steps below:

  1. Set up a static IP address on the computer or device that you are forwarding ports to.
  2. Log in to your ZTE H268A router.
  3. In your ZTE H268A router, navigate to the Port Forwarding section.
    • Click on the Internet tab at the top of the screen.
    • Find the Security tab located near the left of the screen and click on it.
    • Find the Port Forwarding tab at the center of the screen and click it.
  4. Create a Port Forwarding entry.

The process of opening ports in your ZTE H268A router may seem daunting. Remember, however, that you are not alone and do not have to feel discouraged. Let us walk you through the steps for opening ports in your router. Let's get this figured out!

Step 1

If you want to ensure that your ports remain open even after your device reboots, set up a static IP address in the device that you are opening a port for.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

Step 2

Log in to the ZTE H268A router. To do this you need to use a web browser because the ZTE H268A router uses what is called a web interface.

It normally doesn't matter what web browser you use so go ahead and open up your favorite. If you don't have a favorite then open up Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.

If that is confusing to you, we have simplified this step with this link: Login to your H268A Router

Once you have opened up a browser window, find the address bar. This is usually at the top of the page like the image below shows.

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your web browser and type in your router's IP address.

The ZTE H268A router's default IP address is: 192.168.1.1

Enter your router's IP address into the address bar of your browser and click the enter button on your keyboard. A box like the one below should appear.

To login, enter the username and password for the ZTE H268As. Important Note: If you have changed them in the past, you need to enter in those values.

Once you enter your username and password, click the Login button.

ZTE Usernames and Passwords

If the username or password did not work check out our Default ZTE Router Passwords page.

If you are unable to log in even after trying the above list of passwords you may need to consider a reset for your router. Our guide How to Reset a Router can help you with that. After resetting the ZTE H268A router your username and password will be reverted back to factory defaults.

Step 3

You should be on the home page of your ZTE H268A router once you have successfully logged in. Find the Port Forwarding section of your router.

Step 4

Make sure that you must open a port in your router before doing so since this will allow data to come through the firewall portion of your router to a specific device. It is possible that this could lead to malicious traffic on your network. However, don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it because the risk is very low.

  1. Click Create New Item.

  2. Click on the radio button labeled On.

  3. Create a name for this forward and type it into the Name box. Since the name does not have an effect on the functionality of the forward, choose a name that will help you remember why the forward was created.

  4. In the Protocol dropdown box, select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding. Choose Both if your router has that option. Otherwise, choose either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP and your router does not have the Both option, then you need to create two entries.

  5. In the LAN Host box, enter the IP address that you want ports forwarded to. This may be the IP address of your computer or the IP address of another device on your network that you want to forward ports to.

  6. Enter the port number into the left WAN Port and the right WAN Port boxes to forward a single port. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the left WAN Port box and then enter the highest number of that range into the right WAN Port box.

  7. Enter the exact same values that you put in the WANPort boxes into the LAN Host Port boxes.

  8. To apply these changes, remember to click the Apply button at the bottom of the page when you are completely finished.

Test Your Open Ports

Finally, test your network to see if you have forwarded ports in the ZTE H268A router correctly. To do this you can use Network Utilities, which includes a free Open Port Checker tool. Open Port Checker is the only online port-checking tool that has Guaranteed Results.
