The 100Fio Networks Station M5 router comes equipped with a very basic firewall that helps to protect your home network from undesirable Internet access. By default this firewall blocks incoming requests or connections. This is normally a good thing but sometimes you want a connection through your firewall for gaming or some other computer application. To create a connection through your firewall is to create an open port, also called a port forward.
To create an open port on the 100Fio Networks Station M5:
- First, you need to setup a static IP address on the specific device you want to forward the ports to.
- Then, you will login to your 100Fio Networks Station M5 router.
- Next, you navigate to the port forwarding section.
- Select the Advance link.
- Select the Virtual Server option.
- Finally, create a port forward entry.
Don't worry if this seems overwhelming. We will walk you through the steps to create an open port for your 100Fio Networks Station M5 router.
It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.
- Recommended - Our free Static IP Setter will set up a static IP address for you.
- Another way to get a permanent IP address is to set up a DHCP reservation.
- Or, manually create a static ip address with our Static IP Guides.
This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.
