At the end of the intro, Benny executes the Courier (you) with a shot to the head.

After the intro's done, you will wake up in a town called Goodsprings after being rescued by a Securitron called Victor, inside Doc Mitchell's house.

Once you wake up, the doctor will ask you what's your name. This is the part where you will have to enter your name.

The doctor will hand you the Reflectron afterwards, this is the part where you get to customize your character as you like it.

Once you've finished customizing your character, head over to the Vigor Tester and assign your SPECIAL points as you like.

After finishing the word-association, personality profile and tag three skills, the doctor will guide you to the exit and will give you a Vault 21 jumpsuit and a Pip-Boy 3000.
