Make sure that it is necessary for you to open a port in your router before doing so, since this will allow data to come through the firewall portion of your router to a specific device. It is possible that this could lead to malicious traffic on your network. However, don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it because the risk is very low.
Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:
TCP Ports: 3074 UDP Ports: 3074
If you are looking for the ports for a different application you can find it by either:
- Click the button labeled Add new rule.
Select User Defined from the Service Name drop down box. Then, in the User Defined box, type in a name for this forward. This will serve as a reminder to you in the future as to why this forward was set up, so give it a name that makes sense to you.
Choose your internet connection from the WAN Interface dropdown box. If you have more than one option and aren't sure which is correct, the Connection Status section of your router may tell you something.
If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number into both of the Start Port and both of the End Port boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into both of the Start Port boxes. Then enter the highest number of that range into both of the End Port boxes.
In the Server IP Address box, enter the IP address that you want ports forwarded to. This may be the IP address of your computer or the IP address of another device on your network that you want to forward ports to.
Use the Protocol dropdown box to select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding. If your router has the option of Both then choose that. Otherwise select either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP and your router does not have Both then you have to create two entries.
Click the Apply button at the bottom of the page to apply these changes when you are completely finished.
