Fastest Way to Forward Ports on the Huawei E5885L Router
Your E5885L router helps to protect your network by blocking incoming internet connections. This is an important feature that helps you to control which applications have access to your network. Sometimes you want to allow network access to a specific application in order to play a game, connect a device, or use an app. The Huawei E5885L can unblock certain incoming connections through port forwarding or by opening a port. You can open ports in your E5885L by assigning specific ports to an IP address. Forwarding these ports directs incoming data to a specific device or application.
To open a port in your Huawei E5885L router, follow these important steps:
- On the computer or device that you are forwarding ports to, you will need to set up a static IP address.
- Login to your Huawei E5885L router.
- Find the Virtual Server section in your Huawei E5885L router.
- Click the Settings tab, which can be found at the top of the screen.
- Click the Security tab at the left of the screen.
- Click on Virtual Server.
- Go ahead and create a Virtual Server entry.

Once you have opened a web browser, find the address bar which is usually located at the top of the screen. The image below shows an example of this.
In the screenshot above you should see an address bar with the address of 192.168.8.1 in it. This is your router's IP address, sometimes called the computer's default gateway.
The Huawei E5885L router's default IP address is: 192.168.8.1
Enter your router's IP address into the address bar of your browser and click the enter button on your keyboard. A box like the one below should appear.

If the username and password did not work I recommend checking out our Default Huawei Router Passwords page.
If, after trying the above list of passwords you still can't login you may need to consider a reset for your router. Learn how to do that by reading our How to Reset a Router guide. After resetting the Huawei E5885L router your username and password are reverted back to factory defaults.
Find the Port Forwarding Section
You should be on the home page of your Huawei E5885L router once you have successfully logged in. Find the Virtual Server section of your router.
- Find the Settings tab at the top of the screen and click on it.
- Click on the Security tab at the left of the screen.
- Click Virtual Server.
You are now on the Virtual Server page.
Create A Port Forward
Forwarding ports in your router creates a path that allows data to get through your network firewall and it is possible that this could lead to malicious traffic on your network. So make sure that it is really necessary for you to forward a port before actually doing so. However, the risk is very low, so do not let this warning stop you from making this change if you need to.
Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:
TCP Ports: 3074 UDP Ports: 3074
If you are looking for the ports for a different application you can find it by either:
Type in a name for this forward in the Name box. Choose a name that will help you remember why this forward was set up since it does not effect the functionality of the forward.
If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number into the WAN Port Start and the WAN Port End boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the WAN Port Start box. Then enter the highest number of that range into the WAN Port End box.
Find the LAN IP Address box and enter the IP address that you want ports forwarded to. This can be either the IP address of your computer or any other IP address for devices on your network that you want to forward ports for.
Enter the same values into the LAN Port boxes that you entered into the WAN Port boxes.
Select the protocol type of the ports that you are forwarding from the Protocol dropdown box. If your router has the option of Both, then go ahead and select that. Otherwise select either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP but your router does not have Both, then you will need to create two entries.
Choose On from the Status drop down list.
When you are completely finished, click the Add button at the bottom of the page to apply these changes.
Test Your Open Ports
Finally, test your network to see if you have forwarded ports in the Huawei E5885L router correctly. To do this you can use Network Utilities, which includes a free Open Port Checker tool. Open Port Checker is the only online port-checking tool that has Guaranteed Results.
