An important aspect of having a Linksys router on your home network is internet security. In general, routers block incoming internet connections and protect your network by only allowing the connections that you specifically set up. Sometimes it is necessary to unblock certain connections in your router or open a port in order to play a game or use an application. After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

  1. Create a name for this forward and type it into the Application Name box. Since the name does not have an effect on the functionality of the forward, choose a name that will help you remember why the forward was created.
  2. Enter the port number into the Start Port and the End Port boxes to forward a single port. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the Start Port box and then enter the highest number of that range into the End Port box.
  3. Make the Both selection in the Protocol drop-down list.
  4. Go ahead and enter the IP address that you are forwarding ports to into the To IP Address box. It is possible for this to be either the IP address of your computer or of any other device on your network that you want ports forwarded to.
  5. Make sure that the box called Enabled is checked.
  6. To apply these changes, remember to click the Save Settings button at the bottom of the page when you are completely finished.
