How to Port Forward in Your Router for Portmap

When you use Portmap you might need to forward some ports in your router. A port forward allows incoming connection requests from the internet to go straight to Portmap.

Routers do not generally allow incoming connection requests from the internet. A port forward can overcome this limitation.

Before you can forward a port you need to know the following things:

• Your router's IP address.
• The IP address of your computer.
• A list of TCP and UDP ports that need to be forwarded.

Use a VPN Instead

Alternatively you can do it by hand. The process for forwarding a port is:

• Start by logging in to your router.
• Locate the section in your router that deals with port forwarding.
• Put the IP address of your computer in the proper box in your router.
• Put the TCP and UDP ports for Portmap in the corresponding boxes in your router.

Some routers need to be rebooted in order for the changes to be saved.
