Your EdgeRouter X router helps to protect your network by blocking incoming internet connections. This is an important feature that helps you to control which applications have access to your network. Sometimes you want to allow network access to a specific application in order to play a game, connect a device, or use an app. The Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X can unblock certain incoming connections through port forwarding or by opening a port. You can open ports in your EdgeRouter X by assigning specific ports to an IP address. Forwarding these ports directs incoming data to a specific device or application.

The following steps will show you how to open ports on the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X router:

  1. On the computer or device that you are forwarding ports to, you will need to set up a static IP address.
  2. Go ahead and log in to your Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X router.
  3. Find the Port Forwarding section in your Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X router.
    • Find the Firewall/NAT tab at the top of the screen and click it.
    • Click Port Forwarding.
  4. Go ahead and create a Port Forwarding entry.

If you want to ensure that your ports remain open even after your device reboots, set up a static IP address in the device that you are opening a port for.

Step 4

Make sure that you must open a port in your router before doing so since this will allow data to come through the firewall portion of your router to a specific device. 1. Click on the button labeled Add Rule.

  2. Enter the port you want to forward in to both the Original port and Forward-to port boxes.

  3. Use the Protocol dropdown box to select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding. If your router has the option of Both, then choose that. Otherwise, choose either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP and your router does not have Both, then you have to create two entries.

  4. In the Forward-to address box, enter the IP address that you want ports forwarded to. This may be the IP address of your computer or the IP address of another device on your network that you want to forward ports to.

  5. Create a name for this forward and type it into the Description box. Since the name does not have an effect on the functionality of the forward, choose a name that will help you remember why the forward was created.

  6. To apply these changes, remember to click the Apply button at the bottom of the page when you are completely finished.
