Your Virgin Media Hub 3.0 router has a firewall that helps protect your home network from unwanted Internet access. The firewall does this by blocking all connections both into and out of your home network that have not been approved. In order to approve a connection through the firewall for a game or other online application you need to create a port forward. A port forward allows the desired connections through the firewall and sends them directly to the device of your choice on the network.
In this guide we will show you exactly how to port forward on the Virgin Media Hub 3.0. We will show you exactly how to:
- setup a static IP address on the device you are forwarding these ports to.
- login to the Virgin Media Hub 3.0 router.
- find the port forwarding section of the router.
- create a port forward entry.
It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.
I recommend writing this Static IP address down because you will use it in Step 4.
It is now time to login to the Virgin Media Hub 3.0 router. To do this you need to open up a web browser. The browser can be any of the common ones out there. These include Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Edge.
After opening up the web browser of your choice, find the address bar at the top of the page. This should look like this:
Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.
The default Virgin Media Hub 3.0 IP Address is: 192.168.0.1
Of course if you have changed the router's IP address in the past, you need to enter that number in the address bar instead of the default one. However if you have changed and forgotten your IP address you need to find out what it is. This can be done by following the directions on this How To Find Your Router's IP Address page.
Once you have enter the correct IP address into the address bar, click the Enter key and you should be taken to an authentication page like this:
Here you are asked for a username and password. Go ahead and fill these in, then press the red Login button to access the router interface.

This is a common place to get stuck. Here are a few things that may help:
- It is always a good idea to try other Virgin Media passwords. If your router has a slightly different firmware version you may also have a different password. Here is our list of Default Virgin Media Router Passwords to try.
- If the default Virgin Media passwords did not work then there is a very good chance you changed the password in the past and just don't remember. - Lastly, if you are still unable to access the router's interface, you may need to consider a factory reset. A reset like this one erases all configurations you have made in the past including the username and password. Everything is put back to factory defaults. In this third step you need to find the port forwarding section of the device. We begin on the Home page of the device.
Click the Advanced Settings link in the left sidebar.
Now, open up the choice labeled Security.
Then choose the option of Port Forwarding.
Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:
- TCP Ports: 3074
- UDP Ports: 3074
If you are looking for the ports for a different application you can find it by either:
Enter the IP address to forward these ports to into the Local IP box. If you are forwarding ports so you can run a program on a device other than your computer then you can enter your device's IP address into that box.
If you are forwarding a range of ports then you need to enter the lowest number of the range into the Local start port and External start port boxes and the highest number of the range into the Local end port and External end port boxes. If you are only forwarding a single port then you can enter that same port number into the Local start port, Local end port, External start port and External end port boxes.
Select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding from the Protocol box.
Use the Enabled dropdown box to choose On.
Click the Add button when you are all done.
Make sure to click the red Add button when you are finished.
