The Huawei Orange HG8245H router has a basic firewall that defends your home network against unwanted access from the Internet. A firewall by design blocks incoming connections. Sometimes it becomes necessary to unblock some of these connections for a game or application. This process is called to open a port. The process of opening a port is more commonly called a port forward because you are forwarding a port directly through the firewall to a device on your home network.
To open a port for the Huawei Orange HG8245H router you need to:
- Setup a static IP address on the specific device you are forwarding ports to.
- Login to your Huawei Orange HG8245H router.
- Navigate to the port forwarding section.
- Click the Forward Rules link.
- Click on Port Mapping Configuration.
- Finally, create a port forward entry.
Don't worry if these steps seem difficult at first, we will walk you through every step for your Huawei Orange HG8245H router.
It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.
- Recommended - Our free program will setup a static IP address for you. Download Network Utilities today!
- Another highly recommended way of getting a permanent IP address is to set up a DHCP Reservation.
- Or, follow our Static IP Address Setup guides.
With DHCP reservations you can manage your devices from your router. This centralizes the management of your network and helps prevent IP address conflicts. Using this method you do not have to log in to your devices separately.
It is now time to login to the Huawei Orange HG8245H router. This router has a web user interface, meaning you need to login to it using a web browser. The web browser you use does not matter. Some common options are, Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, or Chrome.
Go ahead and open up the web browser of your choice and find the address bar. It should look something like this:
Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.

Having Trouble with the Huawei Username and Password
If the username and password did not work, we recommend trying some other Huawei usernames and passwords. Find them here on this Default Huawei Router Passwords page.
If none of the default Huawei usernames and passwords worked, it is possible you changed the username and password in the past and have forgotten. It might be time to consider a reset. Learn how to do this in our How to Reset a Router guide.
It is now time to find the port forwarding section of the router. To do that follow these steps:
Along the top of the page select the link labeled Forward Rules.
The menu on the left changes. Pick the new option of Port Mapping Configuration.
Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:
- TCP Ports: 3074
- UDP Ports: 3074
If you are looking for the ports for a different application you can find it by either:
Verify that you have the Enable Port Mapping checkbox checked.
In the WAN Name dropdown box select an available connection.
From the Protocol box select the protocol for the ports that you want to forward.
If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of the range into the Start External Port, Start External Source Port and Start Internal Port boxes. Then enter the highest number of the range into the End External Port, End External Source Port and End Internal Port boxes. If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number into the Start External Port, Start External Source Port, End External Port, End External Source Port, Start Internal Port and End Internal Port boxes.
Enter the name of the program into the Mapping Name box. It doesn't really matter what you put into this box, but something that will remind you why these ports are being forwarded is be a good idea.
Enter the IP address of the device that you want to forward ports to into the Internal Host box. This can be either the IP address of your computer or the IP address of another device on your network.
Click the Apply button when you are all done.
Don't forget to click the Apply button after each port forward entry you make.
Test if Your Ports are Open
The last step involves checking to see if the ports actually opened. To do this we recommend using our Network Utilities tool, which includes a free Open Port Checker. This port checker is the only one online that has guaranteed results.
