Your Netgate 1100 router protects your home network by limiting incoming connections from the internet. Sometimes it is necessary to unblock some of those connections like when you want to create a direct connection for gaming, use a specific application, or set up a new device on your network. This process is called forwarding or opening a port. In your Netgate 1100 router you many need to open a port, which means assigning a port number or set of port numbers to a specific IP address. This routes the incoming data to the correct device on your network.
Follow the steps below to open ports in your Netgate 1100 router:
- Set up a static IP address on the computer or device that you are forwarding ports to.
- Log in to your Netgate 1100 router.
- Make your way to the Port Forward section of the Netgate 1100 router.
- Find the Firewall tab located near the top of the screen and click it.
- Click NAT.
- Go ahead and create a Port Forward entry.

Setup A Static IP Address
In order to keep the ports in your router open, even after a reboot or disconnect, it is important to set up a static IP address in the device that you are forwarding a port to.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.
Login To Your Netgate Router
Log in to your Netgate 1100 router. To log in you will need to use a web browser since the Netgate 1100 uses a web interface to access router configurations.
Open up whichever internet browser that you are comfortable with. If you are not sure which one to use, then go ahead and open Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.

Once you have opened a web browser, find the address bar which is usually located at the top of the screen. The image below shows an example of this.
Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your web browser and type in your router's IP address.
The Netgate 1100 router's default IP address is: 192.168.1.1
Enter your router's IP address into the address bar of your browser and click the enter button on your keyboard. A box like the one below should appear.
Enter the username and password for your Netgate 1100 router. Note: If you have changed these numbers in the past, you will need to enter in the those values.
- The default Netgate 1100 Router Username is: admin
- The default Netgate 1100 Router Password is: pfsense
Once you have entered your username and password, remember to click the Sign In button to login to your Netgate 1100 router.

Find the Port Forwarding Section
You should be on your routers home page once you complete logging in. Find the Port Forward section on the home page of the Netgate 1100 router.
- Click on the Firewall tab, which is at the top of the screen.
- Click NAT.
You are now on the Port Forward page.
Create A Port Forward
Make sure that you must open a port in your router before doing so since this will allow data to come through the firewall portion of your router to a specific device. It is possible that this could lead to malicious traffic on your network. However, don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it because the risk is very low.
Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:
- TCP Ports: 3074
- UDP Ports: 3074

To start creating an entry, Click on the button labeled Add.

Choose WAN from the Interface drop-down box.

Select IPv4 from the Address Family drop-down if this forward is for an IPv4 address, or select IPv6 if this is for an IPv6 address.

In the Protocol dropdown box, select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding. Choose Both if your router has that option. Otherwise, choose either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP and your router does not have the Both option, then you need to create two entries.

In the Destination port range section, select Other from both the From port and To port drop-down boxes.

Still in the Destination port range section, Go ahead and enter the port number into the From port and the To port boxes, to forward a single port. To forward a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the From port box and then enter the highest number of that range into the To port box.

Make the Single host selection in the Redirect target IP Type drop-down list.

You need to enter the IP address that you are forwarding ports to into the Redirect target IP Address box. This can be either the IP address of your computer or any other IP address on your network that you want ports forwarded to.

Choose Other from the Redirect target port drop-down box.

In the Redirect target port Custom box, enter the same values that you entered into the Destination port range From port box.

Put a name for this forward in the Description box so that you can remember why you set this forward up. The name does not matter, so pick something that has meaning to you.

Choose Add associated filter rule from the Filter rule association drop-down list.

When you are completely finished, click the Save button at the bottom of the page to apply these changes.
