Did you know your Huawei SmartAX MT882 router has a basic firewall? This firewall helps protect your home network from any unwanted access from the Internet. A firewall by design blocks incoming connections from the Internet and sometimes you need these connections opened in order to play a game or run an application. This process of opening a port is frequently called a Port Forward.
To open a port you must do the following:
- Setup a static IP Address on the exact device you want to forward the ports to.
- Login to your Huawei SmartAX MT882 router.
- Navigate to the port forwarding section.
- Click the NAT link.
- Click the Port Mapping Set button.
- Create a port forward entry.
We will be walking you through each of the above steps to get your port forwarded on the Huawei SmartAX MT882 router.

Step 1
It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.
Use a VPN Instead

Step 2
In order to login to the Huawei SmartAX MT882 router you need to open a web browser because the router uses a web interface program. A web browser is how you got to portforward.com. Some of the typical web browsers are Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer. It doesn't matter which one you open.
After opening the web browser find the address bar. It is normally at the top of the page, like this:
Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.
The default Huawei SmartAX MT882 IP Address is: 192.168.1.1
After entering the correct IP Address simply press the Enter key on your keyboard. You should then see the following image appear on your screen:
You are on the right track if you see a box prompting you for a username and password.
- The Default Huawei SmartAX MT882 Router Username is: admin
- The Default Huawei SmartAX MT882 Router Password is: admin
Go ahead and enter the username and password that is associated with the Huawei SmartAX MT882 router. Then click the OK button to login to the router user interface.
Having Trouble Logging In?
If the username and password did not work then we recommend trying other Huawei usernames and passwords. To check out the full list of default Huawei passwords check out this page.
If you still can't login to the Huawei SmartAX MT882 router it might be because you changed the username and password in the past and have forgotten. If this is suspected we recommend trying our Find Password App. This application will help you determine what your lost username and password are. This will only work on your home network not remotely.
Finally if you are still unable to login it might be time to consider a router reset. A factory reset like this one erases all settings including the username and password. Step 3
It is now time to find the port forwarding section of the router. To do that, let's start on the first page:
First, click the NAT link in the left sidebar. This is found in the Other Setting.
Next, click the Port Mapping Set button in the center section of the page.
Step 4
Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:
- TCP Ports: 3074
- UDP Ports: 3074

If you are just forwarding a single port number then you can simply enter that same number into both the Start Port No. and the End Port No. boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, usually separated by a hyphen, then you need to enter the lowest number of that range into the Start Port No. box and then enter highest number into the End Port No. box.
Enter the IP address that you want to forward these ports to in the IP Address box. You can enter either the IP address of your computer or the IP address of another computer or device on your network.
When you are done, click the Save button to apply the changes to your router.
Test your Ports
