After your brief reunion with Maria head back out the stairs you came in through and this game is starting to make me feel a bit sick in the head.
Exit back into the room with the cube. Go towards the ladder and you'll notice that the fuse box is open and something is sticking out. Examine it and you'll receive a wire cutter.
Head down the ladder and back up the other side. Remember that door that had wire blocking the path? the one from when you just got to this area? Yeah, that's where we're headed.
We have Pyramid Head's greatsword and we still can't go through... game logic. Anyways open up your inventory and use your wire cutter to get through this door.
Head down the ladder and you'll be in a dark cave like corridor. Follow the path until you get to the first branch road. Go right and head up the ladder.
Above the ladder is another branching path. Take the one on the right and go down the ladder.
Down the stairs and on the first branching path, go up and follow the path to the corner.
Keep following the path until you reach the second corner. There's going to be a branching path so take the one on the left and climb up the stairs at the end of it.
As soon as you climb up the ladder you'll see a Lying figure. Kill it quickly before it gets a chance to spit acid at you. Then proceed down the hall and take the path on the right as soon as you see the branching halls. You'll see that part of the floor is made of a metal mesh flooring, that's when you'll know that you're going the right way.
Head down the ladder and you'll be back in the underground tunnels. There's 2 Lying figures here. Kill them then proceed to following the path until you find the first branching roads. Take the one on the left and keep going until you find the ladder.
Up the ladder there's 2 Lying figures waiting to ambush you. Kill them quickly then grab the handgun bullets that's lying near the door.
Head down the ladder on the opposite end of the hall. Keep walking on the path until you reach the first branching roads. Take the one on the left and go up the ladder. If you can hear those odd footsteps then you'll know why you should quickly get out of this area. Pyramid Head is lurking around here of course.
Up the ladder there's a save point and a door. Save your game and proceed to the next room.
Equip your shotgun and head down the long hallway. You'll hear someone talking and James will automatically barge into the room.
