The first boss is a throwback to the very first boss of the Sonic universe.
Attack is best when the ball is moving away as the physics has changed since Sonic 1 so the battle can't be fought the same way as before without getting hurt.
After a few hits Eggman will retract his ball.
Stand far away as possible to avoid this ball swing by Eggman.
